What’s New

This year Workers’ Memorial Day is being observed on Friday, April 28th. It is also the day that OSHA was established in 1971. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their workers. OSHA’s role is to ensure these conditions for America’s working men and women by setting and enforcing standards, and providing training, education and assistance.

Slips, Trips and Falls Are No Laughing Matter For Your Property

On March 9th The Cooperator New York reported  that “just like breathing and sleeping, slips and falls are a natural part of life—whether it’s momentarily stumbling on a sidewalk or briefly losing your footing in the shower. Most of us would regard such incidents as one-offs. But judging by the number of annual visits to the emergency room and the huge monetary costs as a result, slips, trips, and falls (STFs) are a very serious matter. A newly-published book…offers some very enlightening and sobering facts about STFs that should make condos, co-ops, HOAs and property managers take note when it comes maintaining a safe environment at their buildings”.Yarmus Engineering, P.C. is available to inspect properties for conditions which might be prone to causing such slips, trips, and falls, design modifications to help minimize the likelihood of such conditions, and to consult with our clients, including property managers, attorneys, owners, insurance companies, and other related parties when such accidents do occur or are alleged. Please contact our office if we can be of assistance to you or your clients regarding such matters.

Why your flipped house might actually be a flop house

On March 19th CNBC.com reported that “house flipping is hot again, with investors flipping property at the fastest pace in a decade. Yet behind their walls, that picture-perfect dream home could conceal a nightmare…A flipped house is one that has been sold at least twice within one year. Real estate site Trulia said more than six percent of last year’s home sales were flips—the most since before the financial crisis…With flipped property soaring in popularity again, so are the risks associated with buying a lemon, experts say”.
