What’s New

On Friday March 27th the Governor released Executive Order 202.11 that brings enforcement to the local level. In short, 202.11 makes non-compliance with occupancy levels or the operation of a facility or business that has been ordered closed a violation of the NYS Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code.

Recent Projects

  • Forensic engineering consultation regarding staircase safety at a historic luxury hotel located in Manhattan
  • ADA compliance consultation for a multinational supermarket chain store in Brooklyn, NY
  • Forensic engineering consulting regarding a NYS Labor Law 241(6) claim for a construction site located in Manhattan

New York halts most construction

On March 27th The Real Deal reported that “after facing pressure from city officials and workers, the state is shutting down all construction except work on infrastructure, healthcare facilities and affordable housing…The Empire State Development Corp. updated its guidelines Friday, saying only work on “roads, bridges, transit facilities, utilities, hospitals or health care facilities, affordable housing, and homeless shelters” will be considered essential. The qualification is a dramatic change from the blanket exemption included in an executive order Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed last week. Under the order, employees of all non-essential businesses are prohibited from reporting to work”.

Yarmus Engineering, P.C. remains committed as always to guiding and assisting our clients in maintaining the highest level of safety for their site and building operations.  Please contact our office if we can be of assistance to you or your clients regarding such matters.

A Season-by-Season Guide to Your Home Maintenance Schedule

Now that we are all (hopefully) remaining responsibly and safely at home, it might be a good time to revisit our home maintenance practices. With that theme in mind, on March 19th AAA Northeast reported that “home maintenance is about more than keeping your house and yard looking great. It conserves your property value and prevents costly insurance losses. Every season has its challenges, so get ahead of the game with a solid plan”.

Yarmus Engineering, P.C. is available to consult with clientele regarding property maintenance, repair, inspection, and rehabilitation needs.  Please contact our office if we can be of assistance to you or your clients regarding such matters.
