A Few Months Before Its Official Opening, Tappan Zee Bridge Is Drivable

On June 1st The New York Times reported  that “several months remain before it officially opens to long-expectant commuters, but it is now possible to drive across the entire three-mile length of the new Tappan Zee Bridge, a critical crossing in the suburbs of New York City”.On June 9th, as part of their June annual conference, the NYS Society of Professional Engineers (NYSSPE) provided a boat tour of, and educational seminars on, the construction of the bridge.  Yarmus Engineering, P.C. is proud to recognize Andrew R. Yarmus, P.E.‘s role on the Executive Board of NYSSPE, as Vice President of the Mid-Hudson Region, and his role in helping to organize the event.  Please contact our office if we can be of assistance in providing you or your clients any information regarding the construction of this historic project.

Cladding in London tower fire banned for tall buildings in US

On June 15th and 16th The Independent reported that “the cladding on the London tower that burned…killing at least 30 people and possibly as many as 100, is banned in the US for buildings taller than 40 feet ‘because of the fire and smoke spread’.  A fire-resistant form of the aluminum panels could have been used on the building for about $6,400 more”.
