White House Announces National Initiative to Advance Building Codes Based on the International Codes

On June 9th The International Code Council’s Building Safety Journal reported “the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency announced a National Initiative to Advance Building Codes, a new government-wide effort to boost national resiliency and reduce energy costs. Under the initiative, U.S. federal departments and agencies will review federal funding and financing of building construction to ensure projects follow updated model codes and provide incentives and support for communities to adopt modern building codes”.

Yarmus Engineering, P.C. makes it a priority to remain aware and knowledgeable of ongoing building code, industry safety updates, and similar regulatory changes so that we can incorporate same into our designs and inform our clientele of such new regulations which might affect their properties and projects. Firm President, Andrew R. Yarmus, P.E., F.NSPE, maintains his certification as a NYS Code Enforcement Official to ensure same. Please contact our office if we can be of assistance to you or your clients regarding such matters.

Tempe, Ariz., has a major sewer pipe problem

On June 4th U.S. News & World Report reported that “ninety percent of homes in the Tempe, Ariz., area could be affected by deteriorating sewer pipes, according to one expert assessment. The problem stems from the widespread installation of tar-coated paper pipes called “Orangeburg Pipe” that were installed between 1940 and 1970 and are supposed to have a 50-year lifespan, but have sometimes failed in just 10 years”.

Yarmus Engineering, P.C. makes it a priority to remain aware and knowledgeable of ongoing building and industry safety issues so that we can inform our clientele of such matters which might affect their properties and projects.  We are very familiar with Orangeburg Piping, as the name comes from Orangeburg, NY, a town located approximately 10 miles from our main office where most of the piping was manufactured, and much of it was used in the build-up of the area of our office in the 1950’s and 1960’s.  Please contact our office if we can be of assistance to you or your clients regarding such matters.
