Advocates of storm barriers revive concerns on 5-year Sandy anniversary
On October 16th The New York Times reported that “with some memories of the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy five years ago beginning to fade, proponents of a set of offshore barriers to protect the New York metropolitan area from storm surge are re-sounding their alarm. On a boat tour of New York Harbor…the group of advocates pointed out how little has been done to prevent the sort of flooding that Sandy inflicted on the region in October 2012”.Yarmus Engineering, P.C. has worked with clients throughout NYC, and the surrounding areas of NY and NJ, consulting on flood damage, necessary repairs, consultation on dewatering system options, and assistance with fulfilling government and insurance program requirements to obtain funding to assist them in covering the expenses associated with applicable storm-related projects. We remain willing, ready, and able to assist new and existing clients. Please contact our office if we can be of assistance to you or your clients regarding such matters.
Self-Managing Maintenance
On October 26th The Cooperator New York reported “whether because of convenience, the desire for autonomy, or a tight budget, some condo and HOA communities opt not to retain an outside management company or an agent to handle their respective day-to-day administrative and maintenance needs. But without proper oversight and experience, the vitality of the building and property – along with the residents who call it home – can face jeopardy…Aside from planning for potential disasters, boards have to stay on top of routine, day-to-day tasks. Regular maintenance of the building’s vitals, along with knowledge of aging components like elevators and roofs, are essential to a successful operation”.
