We are pleased to announce that firm president, Andrew R. Yarmus, P.E., F.NSPE, has been re-appointed to the National Society of Professional Engineers Council of Fellows for another 2 year term.

We are also pleased to welcome Rebecca Lovitch as an additional Administrative Assistant on our staff; Ms. Lovitch will be managed by Stephanie Falzarano. Congratulations to Ms. Falzarano on the promotion!

Survey Uncovers Key Findings on Falls From Height

On August 11th The American Society of Safety Professionals reported “working at height is inherently hazardous, exposing workers to significant risks that range from falls from roofs, scaffolding and ladders to slips through floor and roof openings. And the lack of use of personal protective equipment – and its misuse at times – greatly increases those risks..A survey conducted last year by CPWR – The Center for Construction Research and Training, supported by the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), gathered insights from safety and health professionals that will help advance fall protection in all industries worldwide…The ANSI/ASSP Z359 Fall Protection and Fall Restraint Committee will use the key findings from the Fall Experience Survey – which explored the root causes of falls from height – to enhance voluntary national consensus standards that guide safety at construction sites and many other workplaces”.

Massive power tool recall: 1.4 million tools recalled, 9 people already injured

On August 6th BGR reported that “two new recall actions are in place concerning devices that might cut you while you’re using them. One of them is DeWALT’s 12-inch Sliding Compound Miter Saws which sold more than 1.4 million units across the US and Canada. The other involves Makita’s cordless hedge trimmers, which sold only about 2,600 units in the US…Both devices have the same problem. A part that should protect the user might lead to laceration injuries. DeWALT already received 571 malfunction reports, including 9 injuries”.
