Mr. Yarmus will be recognized at the NYSSPE June Annual Conference being held at the Kartrite Resort from June 6th-8th.

NYC weighs collapse risk scores for buildings
On May 2nd ASCE’s SmartBrief for Civil Engineers reported that “risk scores would be assigned to buildings to assess their likelihood of collapse under a building safety law now before the New York City Council. The score would be assessed according to such factors as age, size, materials and a building’s history of permits, violations, inspections and complaints with owners facing possible penalties for failing to address problems”.

Yarmus, P.E., F.NSPE, as President of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers (NYSSPE), has been monitoring this proposed legislation, and has offered to assemble a team of key engineering leaders in the NYC community to meet with the applicable council leaders and/or Building Department personnel to offer insight into the engineering criteria necessary to support this initiative. New York demands freedom from lowest-bidder contracting
On May 14th Global Construction Review reported that “New York City is trying to break free from state rules requiring the use of lowest-bidder contracting, rallying at City Hall last week under the slogan “Let NYC Build Better, Faster and Cheaper”…Led by Deputy Mayor Meera Joshi, Comptroller Brad Lander, the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC), the campaigners want the state government in Albany to let them use alternative procurement approaches, known as “construction manager-build” (CM-Build) and “progressive design-build”…They say these approaches save time and money by allowing designers and contractors to collaborate better on projects”.
